BAMS Dances the Night Away!
By: Ayannah Ali
On March 3rd, NJHS and SGA helped create and host an amazing Hollywood themed dance. It was truly awesome, and so many other students that attended would agree. It lasted from 6:00-8:00 p.m., and man was it a blast! Overall, the dance got a lot of good feedback! People were even saying they wanted it to be longer. The halls and gyms were decorated beautifully, thanks to the helping hands of both students and especially staff. The mini gym, as well as the main gym, were quickly flooded with kids as people came in. Inside the main gym was where all the dancing was happening. We had an amazing DJ who played some of today's greatest hits and just made it a much better time. There were multiple dance circles and some kids were even able to dance up on stage. Out in the mini gym was where food, drinks, games, and photos were being held. We were quick to run out of change, but it was overall a good laugh for everyone. A lot of people got chances to win small prizes at the game stations and were able to get “paparazzi” photos taken. The pizza was to die for and the sodas were the cherry on top. By the end of the night, everyone was tired, hot sweaty and anyone who wore heels, such as myself, would know that the next day they couldn’t walk. Overall, it was an amazing time. New friends were made, and people, overall, just had a great time. We can’t wait for the next one.

Discover the Magic of Disney!
By: Kimberly Mallon
In this article, you will get to learn all about Disney World! Disney World is located in Orlando, Florida. There are four main parks and Disney Springs; their shopping plaza. The four parks are Animal Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Magic Kingdom. I will go more in-depth later about the parks, but first, we should learn a little about Disney history!
Disney was founded in 1923 by Walt Disney. That’s why it’s Walt Disney Studios when you watch a Disney movie. He invented the one and only Mickey Mouse! That’s why there is a statue of him with a life-size Mickey Mouse in the park. The way Walt bought the Disney World property is actually a very interesting story. He didn’t just buy it all and fly there. That would make people suspicious and wonder what's going to happen there. He actually bought little bits of land from many different “companies”. Some examples include Latin-American Development and Management Corp., Tomahawk Properties and M.T. Lott Co. You get it? He didn’t want people to wonder what was going on, so he did this. One thing that has recently ended was the 50th anniversary of Disney World! This was an awesome celebration that occurred. This lasted for an entire year and the castle was decorated so beautifully. The firework show for the celebration was called Enchantment and it looked cool. After the 50th Anniversary ended on the 31st of March, Fantasmic will return for the 100th anniversary of Walt Disney Studios.

Description: Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is Epcot’s first and only roller coaster to appear in the park since it opened on October 1st, 1982. The closest to a roller coaster that has ever appeared is Test Track where you are moving in a car. Before the ride, there are two opening showrooms, the first where you are greeted, and the second where you are teleported. Something will go wrong, and you will end up being the last hope to save the Cosmic Generator. When you get on the ride you will spin in the car and go fast through sharp turns and drops. Woody’s Round Up Rodeo Review:
Woody’s Round-Up Rodeo is a brand-new restaurant located in Toy Story Land at Hollywood Studios. This restaurant is always sold out for the next 60 days (about 2 months) once it becomes available. My family and I were lucky to get a spot and the food was delicious! It is a barbeque restaurant. Instead of a buffet style, the food is brought out in a family style where the food is placed on your table, and you can order more without paying more for it.

Should Lunch Be Free Again...???
By: Alexis Tabafunda
Every year, millions and millions of kids start lining up just to buy one thing. And you may be asking what this “thing” is...? It should kind of be obvious by now, because of the title of this newsletter, but that “thing” that kids buy every year is called lunch. "A meal eaten in the middle of the day, typically one that is lighter or less formal than an evening meal.” (Copied from Oxford Language Dictionary on Google) This is a definition of what lunch means and you may be wondering, “Why would I ever write a newsletter about lunch!?” Well, throughout COVID (2019 through the first half of 2022) people who went to school in-person through 2019-2022 got lunch for free. The public schools at that time offered free lunch and breakfast until it came to an end when federal funding ended the free meals in Maryland.
Usual prices of how much breakfast and lunch:
At Bel Air Middle, the price of breakfast in the morning is $1.35. This is the same price for breakfast in elementary schools. However, the prices between elementary and middle school lunches are a little difference. For elementary schools, the price for lunch is $2.50. As for middle school, the price for their lunch is $2.60 (a difference of 10 cents). I’ve wondered why middle school lunch was only 10 cents above the average elementary school price. I know you think it’s probably not a big deal, but for me, it’s pretty strange. If breakfast for both schools is the same price, how come lunch for both schools isn’t the same...?
What is the estimate of how much money kids/parents spend on lunch:
According to how many school days we have been at BAMS, I have estimated about 180 days of school that we’ve been here (including early dismissals). If you multiply 180 days with how much school lunch is (which is $2.60) you would get a total of $468 of lunch being spent for a whole school year. Most kids usually prefer buying lunch. Right now, there is an average of 20,000 lunches being sold almost every day followed by an average of 8,000 breakfasts that are sold.
My opinion:
I honestly think that lunches should be free again. Even though COVID isn’t really around that much, I still think that the government in Maryland should still pay for our lunches. There are still people in Maryland who don’t really have that much money to afford lunch for their children, and I don’t really think it’s fair for us to only have free lunches for only three years.
So, this is why lunch should be free and why people should understand how much money gets spent every school year. I hope you liked it!

Sports Buzz with Max and Chance
By: Chance Block and Max Cullison
What is going on BAMS? Back at it with the sports buzz. This time we're concentrating on the offseason of the Commanders and Ravens, Lamar's signing after draft, and how the Ravens draft went. This is the last time BAMS will see Sports Buzz, so we would like you to enjoy it, and we thank BAMS readers.
Baltimore Ravens
By: Max Cullison
2nd 10w-7L
Opening day: At Pittsburgh
When: TBD
All right, so the Ravens lost to the Bengals in the playoffs and have had three straight disappointing seasons, to say the least. But, they did sign their franchise quarterback, Lamar Jackson. Also, in the draft, the Ravens got Zay Flowers, a wide receiver out of Boston College. The Ravens also fired their Offensive Coordinator, Greg Roman, who found himself on the hot seat after three straight bad seasons. His replacement, Todd Monken, has been one of the best coaches in college football for the Georgia Bulldogs. Overall, next year looks bright for the team.
Washington Commanders
By: Chance Block
4th 8-8-1
Opening day: At Dallas
When: TBD
Not too bad, Commanders! Better than lasts season. The Commanders had a pretty good season to start off, but eventually fell off. Although they did get 4th place, they still had a great season. The Commanders just need to rebuild their QB. Although Wentz was a decent player back in 2019 and ran for MVP, it never happened; hence the reason for his downfall, going through two organizations. QB #4, Taylor Heinicke, lead in passing yards with 1,859. RB #8, Brain Johnson, lead in rushing yards with 797.
Guardians of the Galaxy Movie Review: A Must-See!
By: Kimberly Mallon
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is a highly anticipated film for Marvel fans, which is directed, written, and directed by James Gunn. The movie is a sequel to the previous two installments and is a continuation of the story that involves the action-packed adventures of Star-Lord, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, Drax, and Groot.
The movie is packed with high-action sequences from the start which makes it an exciting watch for audiences of all ages. The plot follows the Guardians as they continue their journey traversing the galaxy and fighting off evil in the form of new villains who are determined to destroy everything in their path. The movie has a great balance of action, humor, and drama which keeps viewers entertained throughout.
The acting in this film is top-notch, with all the actors giving great performances. Chris Pratt as Star-Lord is the standout performer, and he brings a lot of charm and charisma to the role. Zoe Saldana as Gamora is also impressive, delivering a well-rounded performance that adds to the emotional depth of the story. Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel, as voices of Rocket Raccoon and Groot, respectively, also play important roles and add their own brand of humor to the mix.
The film also features some fantastic character development for many of the main characters. We get to see Star-Lord struggling with his identity and his place in the galaxy as he discovers more about his past. Gamora also faces challenges as she tries to reconcile with her sister, Nebula. This emotional aspect of the story adds a nice balance to the action sequences.
The music in the film is also a highlight. As with the previous installments, the soundtrack is packed with hits from the 70's and 80's which adds to the nostalgic and fun atmosphere of the movie. Each song is used perfectly throughout the film, and it never feels overwhelming or forced.
One of the most impressive things about the film is its stunning visuals. The special effects and CGI are seamless, bringing the galaxy to life in a beautiful and believable way. The alien landscapes and creatures are creative and imaginative, giving audiences a glimpse into the vastness and complexity of the universe.
The action sequences in the film are also expertly choreographed, with each fight scene feeling like a well-crafted dance. The combination of physical stunts and CGI make for some visually stunning and exciting moments that will have audiences on the edge of their seats.
The villain in this installment is also compelling, with the audience being introduced to a new character who brings a fresh perspective to the story. The villain's backstory is developed well, and their motivations are clear, which makes them a formidable and interesting opponent for the Guardians.
The humor in the movie is also fantastic, with many laugh-out-loud moments sprinkled throughout the story. The humor never feels forced or crass, and it adds to the overall enjoyment of the film.
However, despite its strengths, the film does have some weaknesses. The story occasionally feels disjointed, with some plot points feeling rushed and underdeveloped. The pacing of the film is also a bit off, with some scenes feeling unnecessarily long while others feel too short. Additionally, some characters feel underutilized, particularly Drax and Mantis, who are relegated to the background for a large portion of the movie.
In conclusion, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is a highly enjoyable movie that delivers on the promises made by its predecessors. The acting, visuals, music, and humor are all fantastic, and the film manages to deliver an engaging and exciting story while fitting in some emotional depth. While it may have its faults, they are minor compared to the overall enjoyment and entertainment value of the movie. Fans of Marvel and the first two Guardian movies will find a lot to love in this installment.

Summer-Themed Environmental Tips
By: Eirabella Tapia
Thinking of going green this summer, but not sure how? Then this article is for you! These are some ideas of how to do your part in becoming more environmentally friendly this summer. You may have heard of some, others not, but regardless, these are some important things to start with if you’re planning to go eco-friendly this year. From reusing, recycling, and composting to green energy and using less plastic, there are many things you can do to make your mark. In the following list I’ve compiled for you, you can read about some helpful things you could do this summer to take steps towards a greener, cleaner future.
Use Less Plastic
Plastic is a durable, inexpensive material we use for many things in our daily life. However, plastic takes around 400 years to break down completely (which is a long time), and most of it ends up as litter or buried in landfills. Worldwide, people create on average 380 million tons of plastic every year. That’s a lot of plastic! Most of it ends up in the environment, especially the oceans, where it harms the delicate balance of our ecosystems. Animals eat plastic or get tangled up in it, killing them. While we can’t magically remove all the plastic from the oceans and banish it away, what you can do is reduce the amount of plastic you use every day. Not buying things heavily wrapped in plastic (or buying things with no plastic packages at all, if possible), using a water bottle instead of plastic bottles, using reusable bags instead of plastic ones and buying eco-friendly things all help reduce your plastic consumption. This helps conserve energy as well, as creating plastic takes a lot of energy which is normally produced by burning fossil fuels, which are also bad for the environment. For example, go for the popsicles in paper boxes instead of the ones wrapped in layers of plastic bags and clear film next time you shop for a sweet summer treat, and opt for reusable straws for your next batch of smoothies or soda.
Shop Smart
You can also help the environment while you shop! As I’ve said before, you can lessen the amount of plastic you buy, but there are also other things you can do at the store that also have a beneficial effect on the environment. For example, bring your own bags to the grocery store instead of picking up plastic ones, buying items made of recycled materials, and buying sustainable seafood. Get a nice summer-themed reusable bag to carry around and be fashionable while also helping the environment (or decorate one yourself for a fun DIY project), stick to recycled bottles to carry your water in next time you go to the beach or out on a camping trip, and do your research to find out what fish would be best for your next barbecue cookout. Just search up “how to find sustainable seafood”- you’ll get a list of verified websites which hold valuable information on what seafood is best to buy and which you should avoid, as well as all the details. For a start, try Seafood Watch for more info at https://www.seafoodwatch.org/ .
Find Driving Alternatives
When possible, it’s a good idea to ride a bike, walk or carpool with others instead of driving on your own. In 2020, cars produced about 3 BILLION metric tons of carbon dioxide in that year alone! All that carbon dioxide is getting into our air supply and fueling climate change, adding to the greenhouse gases already there and warming our planet even more. By reducing the amount of time you spend driving your car, you can reduce the amount of CO² emissions created by cars and other vehicles annually. Even though it might be small, it’s still a difference, and you’ll be doing your part to help the planet. Riding a bike or walking is an effective way to get some exercise, and who knows; you might have fun doing it! Going on a bike ride or a walk with family and friends is a wonderful, green way to spend time with them, and it helps the environment too!
Volunteer For Community Cleanups
Volunteering for a cleanup in your area is a terrific way to support the planet. Searching for a group to join and cleaning litter from the streets and beaches is an effective way to get some volunteer hours in (which will help you in the future) and could potentially save the lives of lots of animals. Litter on the streets and in the oceans can negatively affect lots of animals, who get tangled in the trash or eat it by accident, believing it’s food. They can get seriously injured or even die. Cleaning all this trash helps save all the animals who could have been hurt by it, and you could have some fun doing it too! Community clubs are a wonderful way to make friends (who may also care about the environment too) who you can hang out with this summer- friends make the long days even better!
Conserve Water
Conserving water is another easy thing you can do to help the environment (and spend less money as well). Instead of taking baths, try the shower instead- it uses up less water than a bathtub full of bubbles. If you need to use the bathtub for some reason, try to only fill it halfway and close the drain to avoid wasting any water. Another thing you can do is avoid throwing away water that could be repurposed for such things like watering plants. Not draining extra water is a major help when it comes to conserving it. You should also avoid using your toilet as a waste basket (throwing away trash by flushing it down- you could clog your toilet, which wouldn’t be fun) and leaving the faucet running while shaving or brushing teeth. Make sure to fully turn off your faucet when you leave the sink- leaving it dripping can have a substantial impact on your water bill. Some other good things to consider are to operate the dishwasher only when it’s full, repair water leaks, sweep outdoor areas instead of hosing them down, and using a pool cover to prevent evaporation when the pool is not being used. (It also helps keep your pool free from dirt that might blow in otherwise.) For more information, check out https://portal.ct.gov/DEEP/Water/Water-Quantity/Tips-for-Conserving-Water. These tips will help you save big bucks on these bills- money that could be spent on a summer vacation. So, it’s a good idea to save up on water, especially if you’re thinking about a summer cruise in the Bahamas.
Be Energy Efficient
Using energy efficient lights and maintaining them is another great way to help the environment. By using environmentally friendly light bulbs, not only will they last longer and not need to be replaced as often, but they will reduce the amount of energy you use and use that energy efficiently. This may help you save on your electric bill as well! Other things you can do are to make sure you turn your lights OFF when you leave the room (leaving lights on while they are not in use uses up extra energy), try opening windows when possible and using natural light instead of turning the lights on, and not over lighting rooms with too many lightbulbs on at once, among other things. Not only will you be conserving energy and time, but you could also be helping burn fewer fossil fuels and reducing your carbon footprint. Besides, the extra money you save could go to snacks for a movie night- you never know!
Don’t Litter
This one is a no-brainer. Throwing trash on the streets is obviously bad for the environment. This trash is often blown around by the wind and eventually ends up in the oceans, where it meets the same fate as most plastic trash and is broken down into microplastics or ends up as (rather unhealthy) fish food. Despite the common knowledge that this is bad, many people still dump garbage on the streets. Don’t be lazy! Next time you’re out strolling through the park or walking along a woodland trail, instead of dropping your used candy wrappers or empty water bottles on the ground, find the nearest trash bin and dispose of it there. It really helps, and it’s one less piece of trash in the ocean.
Switch To Green Energy
Using green energy is a great way to help the environment and shrink your electricity bill, too. Not only are they more efficient than normal energy, they protect you from price fluctuations, are reliable, and reduce your energy bills. While the upfront costs of installing green energy may be a bit daunting, in the long run you will be saving lots of money, and eventually you’ll even profit from the investment! Solar, wind, hydroelectric and other forms of clean energy are all good choices to opt for when going green. With this, you can harness the energy of the long summer days to cool your home!
Avoid Chemicals
Chemicals from fertilizers, pesticides, household cleaners, and other such things can leach into the environment and cause great harm to the environment. Try to avoid fragrances, create your own home cleaners instead of buying them, buy fresh food instead of canned food when possible, and stop using air fresheners. If you must use chemicals, try to find some that are helpful or at least harmless to the environment. While it might be sad that your house won’t smell like the salty beach sea, it’s even more reason to see the real thing!
Plant Trees
Deforestation is a major problem around the world. About 15 billion trees are cut down annually- that's a lot of dead trees! Cutting down forests releases the carbon dioxide they store back into the atmosphere, which adds to the amount already in the air and speeding up global warming. Planting trees, even just one, can make a difference and inspire others to help as well! Of course, try to plant as many as you can, and aim for native trees which won’t become invasive and negatively affect the ecosystem. A tree you planted in your backyard could grow big and tall within a few years, and then you can attach a swing to it, build a treehouse (with recycled or sustainably-sourced wood, of course), or simply sit and read in the shade with a cool drink, which are all great opportunities for summer fun. The more trees, the better!
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
This is likely the most famous and well-known phrase in all eco-friendly history. This saying is so important to the green community that we have stopped shedding light on what happens behind the scenes. Most neighborhoods don’t recycle all types of plastic, and the plastic they do get is almost always contaminated with unrecyclable objects, rendering the entire batch unusable. And this plastic just doesn’t get recycled, instead ending up in the usual places plastic goes- the ocean and landfills. Having trash on the beach is never fun! While recycling equipment is expensive, it’s worth it in the long run- having recycled plastic on hand is always good for business. To do your part, please check if things are recyclable in your area and dispose of them accordingly. Never throw things that aren’t recyclable into the bin- it ruins the chances of the other items inside being recycled. Be careful with what you recycle and what you throw away, as ignorance can get a lot of plastic thrown away instead of being recycled. And, of course, we can’t forget about the other two R's. Reusing bags, water bottles, and other items with the opportunity to be reused is a great way to save money (as you’re not buying a new one for every occasion) and help the environment by reducing the amount of waste that gets put into the environment. Throwing something away after one use is just a waste. And if your item can’t be reused again, turn it into something new! Upcycling is a great way to turn your trash into treasure. (See Upcycling.) And, of course, if you can, simply avoid buying plastic altogether. This reduces the amount of plastic going into landfills and ending up in the ocean. If there’s less plastic in the ocean, it helps out a lot of animals who are negatively impacted by this garbage, and then you might see them next time you go out on a boat trip! Just imagine they’re saying “Thanks!”
Use Reusable Water Bottles
Here’s another obvious one. Reusable water bottles are a great alternative to single-use plastic bottles, as not only are you not wasting your money on buying a new bottle every time, but it’s also helpful for the environment! While the number of plastic bottles in the ocean is not known, around 8 to 9 MILLION TONS of plastic ends up in the ocean every year, and plastic bottles probably make up a big part of that. Plastic bottles that are thrown on the street and become litter eventually end up on our beaches and collecting in the huge garbage patches already growing in the ocean and feeding on our refuse. This waste plastic harms wildlife in many different ways, and is overall detrimental to the health of our planet. After all, who wants to play on a beach covered with plastic bottles?
Try to Compost Things
If you can, try to compost extra biodegradable things! Buying a compost bin might be a bit smelly, but it helps reduce the amount of stuff you throw away, meaning that less stuff ends up in landfills! Organic material like fruit peels and parts of vegetables and certain compostable objects (make sure to check: biodegradable does not always mean compostable) can turn into a great fertilizer for your home garden. Just add some worms and you have the perfect potting mix for your flowers or fruit! When this stuff decomposes, it turns into a fertile soil great for planting things. Just sprinkle a bit on your plants, and your bright sunflowers or summer vegetables will be sprouting nicely in no time! The great part is that it’s made entirely out of stuff you might have thrown away otherwise- and it’s free, so you can save for an orange glass to make some juice out of your orange tree that you grew with compost.
Consume Less, Dispose of Less
Another thing you can do to help the environment is simply to consume less. Avoid buying things you don’t need, and things with excess packaging. For example, if there’s an option with less cardboard, air bags, packing peanuts, Styrofoam, plastic wrap, tape, etc, then go for it! (Of course, if it’s bad quality, it’s not the best idea- make reasonable shopping choices too!) Don’t buy more than you need. If you’re buying 5 apples when you only need 3, and you know that you’re probably not going to eat the extra and they’ll end up spoiling, then only buy 3. Not only does it help your cash balance, it means less rotten food and packaging in the environment, which is just good all around. Plus, it means less trips to the garbage can, so you can just sit and binge watch your favorite shows!
Upcycle
Reducing, reusing and recycling is great and all, but we may have forgotten the U. Upcycling is the process of turning trash into treasure, basically: taking items that would be thrown away and transforming them into something new. For example, you can repurpose some plastic bottles and an old clothes hanger into a colorful, eco-friendly wind chime for your front porch. An old milk jug could become a cool watering can, and some scrap wood from your old shed could be turned into a super fun treehouse for summer activities. Plus, you can add your own personal summer touch- making an ocean-themed color scheme, attaching summer stickers, painting and coloring- all of these things make your project unique and even better. The possibilities for summer crafts are endless- what can you make out of trash?
Secondhand Shopping
Did you know that thrift stores are actually good for the environment? Yes, secondhand clothes can be good for the Earth; because nothing is being produced (the clothing is just being resold), no waste is produced like when you purchase something new from a factory. Manufacturing processes account for 12% of global emissions, which is a lot considering how much greenhouse gases are already in the air. When you buy from a secondhand store, none of that extra stuff is produced- you just get the clothing you want and the environment doesn’t have to suffer for it! Sounds great, right? And this doesn’t apply to just clothing- many other things can be bought secondhand, too. And who knows what you might find- you could be rocking a Hawaiian shirt from the 90s and still be cool. (You’re always cool, though- no matter what you wear.)
Buy From Local Sellers
Going to your local farmer’s market every now and then is a good thing. When you buy from big brands and supermarkets, the food you buy is often made with chemicals and treated in a factory, which further contributes to the already rising global emissions. And, of course, there’s always the risk of manufacturing defects. Even if no chemicals or manufacturing defects are involved, many products bought from these big businesses are heavily packaged in plastic. Local sellers often make or grow everything they sell by hand, and usually don’t involve any chemicals in their work. By buying from these kinds of stores, not only would you be supporting a small business, you would also be receiving high-quality products and helping the environment! Besides, it’s nice to know that your apple pie is made of fresh apples with no chemicals involved. They might even taste better!
Spread The Word
The best thing you can do to help the environment is to spread the word. Many people don’t take notice of the problems going on in our world, and just sit down and “let the experts do it” for them. In reality, nothing is going to get better if you just sit down and do nothing. You can help by rallying your friends to the cause, and telling as many people as you can about the climate crisis we are currently going through. Host events relating to the environment (or take part in one that does and speak up for the planet), write about climate change and its effects, or simply convince your parents to get a compost bin for your kitchen. One person can indeed make a difference, and that person might just be you! After all, sitting around and doing nothing all summer is boring compared to helping the planet. And wouldn’t you rather make this world a better place for you and the generations after?
The planet needs our help, and no matter how small or insignificant you may think you are, you can make a difference. While these tips are mainly on the smaller size, they will help you make your mark on the planet, and will support the planet in their own ways. And setting environmentally-friendly goals for yourself will give you something to do this summer! When you get back to school, you might be wearing thrift-store clothing or have a freshly packed, all-local lunch. You could be bragging about your treehouse made of recycled wood, your garden of fruit grown with compost, or your fancy colorful glass wind chime. You might even be famous as a climate activist! Who knows. Of course, these are not the only things you can do to support the planet, and there are many other things that you can do to support the world we live in. Remember, there is only one Earth, and we must do everything we can to preserve our home for future generations. And that means doing your part.

What is True Friendship?
By: Samantha Foley
Friendship is an essential part of life. One cannot do without friends; we must have some friends to make life easier. However, lucky are those who get true friendship in life. It is rare to find someone you instantly click with. Although, if you do, it is extremely exciting.
True friendship is defined as friends that stand by you consistently, both when you are present and when you are not. The difference is you always know a true friend will be by your side through the tough and best times. They will make you feel better when upset, can always offer a good laughter after a long day and answer you with honesty, perspective and empathy.
They’re honest with you when it matters most. They never try to deceive you to make themselves seem stronger, more successful, or better than they really are. A true friend will feel comfortable going beyond the surface, as any true friendship requires some level of vulnerability. Having a friend who shows you that they trust you with their authentic self is a good indicator that you can do the same with them in life. A real friend accepts you as the person you are. Great friends can encourage you to become a better version of you, but they also help you see the beauty in who you are right now. They don’t get sidetracked by what others may say or think of you. Instead, they celebrate the you they’ve come to know. Although a true friend may encourage you to make good decisions, a friend is someone who trusts your judgment and respects your own personal judgments. They don’t become passive aggressive when they give advice you don’t accept. Instead, they respect boundaries and value your feelings and thoughts. They don’t push you to become who they want you to be, or to do the same things they do. Instead, they celebrate what makes you uniquely you. They acknowledge you for you, know that you matter, and want what's best for your soul. They accept your personal growth and evolutions along the way because the reasons they value you go far beyond your personal style, interests, profession, marital/relationship status, etc.
Overall, having a good supporting friend will aid you in overcoming your own challenges, and when you surround yourself with better people, you become a better person yourself.

Why Should You...
By: Christina Nguyen and Summer Schickedanz
Why should you eat breakfast?
Many teens leave the house in the morning without consuming any breakfast. The reason behind this could be “I am too lazy to have breakfast”, or “I don’t want to gain weight from breakfast.” Sure, you could last without eating breakfast, but doing this can take a huge toll on your body. There are many risks you are exposed to when skipping breakfast. Risks such as diabetes, obesity, migraines, & many others. Eating breakfast should be an essential part of your diet. It can benefit you throughout the day and in the future as well. It gives you a boost in your energy levels and helps jumpstart your metabolism, which leads to burning more calories. A note to everyone reading this is, breakfast is extremely important for your body, so please please make time for it, and make sure to take care of yourself.
Why should you have a positive mindset?
A positive mindset can be hard to achieve, especially because a lot of the people we know can be pessimistic. Everybody has their moments, and everybody can be a little pessimistic at times, but it is important to understand that you should not be letting yourself be engulfed in pessimism. Even when you are not feeling good about a situation, try to rationalize, and point out the good, because being pessimistic can have negative impacts on your self-esteem. Studies show that pessimism can make you sick. This sickness is called the “nocebo effect”. The nocebo effect is when we think we’ll get sick, we will get sick, when we have the negative mindset of thinking something is going to happen, it is more likely to happen. Not only does pessimism make our stress levels rise, but it can also lead to heart attacks, dementia, and more.
Why should you make your bed every day?
Making your bed everyday can be more beneficial then you may presume. According to scientists, making your bed everyday can improve your sleep quality by a lot. The National Sleep Foundation took a survey and noticed that 19% of people who make their bed in the morning have better sleep than those who do not make their bed in the morning. Another result of making your bed in the morning is you have an 11% better chance of becoming a millionaire. Making your bed in the morning is one of the easiest things you can do, and if you can get these results from making your bed, why not make your bed in the morning?
Why should you exercise every day?
Exercising everyday can help you by allowing you to have a decreased chance of developing diseases like cancer, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. Exercising every day also helps you manage your weight, and over all allows you to be healthier and live longer. Exercising helps you establish a steady schedule that will make you more productive and get you out of bed. Exercise is tough, especially to do every day, but if you do exercise everyday, you will never regret it.
Goodbye Splash Mountain
By: Kimberly Mallon
Splash Mountain has always been a classic ride throughout the years. We have recently said a very sorrowful goodbye. It has been a ride at Disney World for the past 34 years. It is very sad to see a classic ride like this leave Disneyworld after all these years. The ride will be replaced by the all-new ride, Tiana's Bayou Adventure sometime in 2024.
Splash Mountain was a water ride located in Frontierland, next to Big Thunder Mountain. A ride like this is a great ride for any day in sunny Florida, whether it’s a hot summer day or mid-winter, you will want to stop by this ride. You could watch Brer Rabbit hop and venture home, or splash on down to The Laughin’ Place. No matter what, you will have a great time.
FUN FACT:
The ride isn’t really in the mountain part the whole time. It actually goes in the buildings behind the mountain before it heads up the hill. It's like the Matterhorn at Disneyland where there is nothing on the bottom half of the ride. People do claim that there is a basketball court down there. This is a thing that many rides at Disney do.
FUNNY FAILS:
The Lazy-Eyed Frog: This is a very common malfunction where the eye lid gets stuck and doesn’t move.
The Non-Happy Hoppin Brer Rabbit: This one is also common where Brer Rabbit isn’t hopping in a circle like normal. Sometimes it doesn’t move at all, it moves but doesn’t hop, but the entire head might have also popped off completely! Basically, there are just many things that can go very wrong with this animatronic.
The Not So Laughin’ Splashin’ Turtle: In the Laughin’ Place there are three turtles that splash upside down, but sometimes they aren’t so happy and just stay in place. One time the entire shell broke off and just stayed at the bottom while the turtle jumped. You could see all the inner animatronics and how it works.
The Bobbling Hen: In the finale of the ride, there are three hens, but the one to the left doesn’t like to cooperate at times. The hens head either pops off, or shakes way to much and makes it turn around.
Those are just a few fails on the ride, but I thought it would be funny to share a few as we wish this beloved ride goodbye. There is also a good YouTuber called TPMVIDS that has a whole series on Disney animatronic fails. So, if you like stuff like this, be sure to check him out.
Here is a full POV of the ride: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPe7YjgnR4M
In order to modernize the ride, Disney Engineers decided to retheme the ride to Tiana's Bayou Adventure. This ride is expected to open in late 2024 on the same mountain our greatly loved Splash Mountain retired. We don't have many pictures of what it will look like exactly, but we do have some concept art about what Disney expects the ride to look like.
In conclusion, Disney fans are still very sad to see an amazing ride like this leave our park, but we do expect Tiana’s Bayou Adventure to be a great replacement to Splash Mountain. I mean, if they want to replace it, the ride better be amazing!
