Panthers for the Planet

Panthers for the Planet

Welcome to Panthers for the Planet!

Do you love the great outdoors?   Is nature your favorite thing to look at and learn about?  Would you embrace being called a "tree hugger"?  If you answered YES than Panthers for the Planet is for you!!!   Come have a great time with Mrs. Leone and Mrs. Baker learning about the environment and doing projects that can make our community more eco-friendly!

As a Panthers for the Planet (P4P) member, you will take part in school projects to make our BAMS community more eco-friendly. Last year we worked on projects to maintain our low mow area and Green School status as well as get our hydroponics system in our greenhouse up and running.  This year we look forward to continuing these projects as well as improving the recycle status of our school and adding a butterfly garden to our courtyard near our pond.

We will meet for the first time on
Thursday, September 14 from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. in Room 21.  Stop by Mrs. Baker's room (Room 21) to get a form to sign up.

BAMS Named Certified Maryland Green School

Great news!!  Bel Air Middle School is now a certified Maryland Green School!  This means that our students and staff have taken many actions to make our school more eco-friendly and have incorporated environmental learning across multiple grades and subject areas.  Here are some examples of the ways BAMS has gone green:

  • establishing a large low mow zone with rain barrels
  • planting pollinators plants and maintaining gardens
  • 6th and 8th grade completing a school-yard watershed survey
  • 7th graders making and throwing seed-bombs
  • 6th graders learning about plastic pollution and making awareness posters
  • Panthers for the Planet doing a BioBlitz, virtual birding lesson, planning and ordering hydroponic kits, making seed starters (and much much more!)
  • 10+ teachers taking a National Geographic course to incorporate environmental learning
  • 200 tree saplings being taken home by students and planted in the community
  • 7th grade raising a diamond back terrapin for release to the wild

A special shout out to Panthers for the Planet, the student organization that made many of these projects happen!  We can't wait to continue making BAMS an eco-friendly school!
